Google Earth – Adverting Platform?

Like all millennial, I spend my fair share of time on the internet. So much in fact, that I’ve fallen down the rabbit hole of brands and the weird and wonderful technologies they use to advertise their products.

Now, like most people, I wouldn’t have though that Google Earth could be used for a social media campaign, but M&M has done just that!

In the ‘Find Red’ campaign, Canadians (sorry rest of the world) would search Toronto using Google Street view to find the hidden Reds. He could be hidden on building walls, residential windows, even on the side of parked cars. It became a game, as players went into the draw to win a red car and with the time period being only a month, players urgently looked for clues scattered within M&M’s other social media platforms.

It sounds almost as addictive as Pokemon Go was!

Take a look at this video of how the ‘Find Red’ campaign worked:

What do you think of this campaign?

Would you participate in a ‘Find Red’ challenge like this??

Let me know in the comments below!

Now I’m off to the clouds!
